tDH The Doctor House is the “in scene” for live music, drinks and real fire cooked pizza.
The Doctor House is named after and located in the 200-year-old colonial main building which originally served as an “natural medicine” Ayurveda hospital. Originally built in 1822, it has been handed down, generation after generation, through a long line of Ayurveda doctors and has now cared for by two Australian surfers.
The Dutch colonial style building is truly outstanding.Mysterious looks makes you wonder how many stories the walls could tell. This building was one of very few which survived the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami and it’s strength has stood the test of time.
The building has been renovated with care and sympathy to it’s authenticity. Doctors House serves well as a meeting place for surfers and people who appreciate natural fineness.
There has been a focus on careful landscaping of the grounds surrounding The Doctor’s House, complementing the building’s origins and style.

It is the ultimate hang out for people from all walks of life and the evening sunsets are amazing!
Madiha is a tranquil yet vibrant coastal village. B;essed with three great surf breaks of intermediate to advanced level. The lagoon opposite the Doctors House has tropical fish and is sheltered by the coral reef.
SURF VILLAGE NEIGHBOURHOOD
The neighbourhood is traditional Sri Lankan and the local people are welcoming. It is a popular little surf village, but without the overpowerig tourists like neighbouring Mirissa. One of the best things about this area is that we are not on the busy Galle Rd and we don’t have a railway line near us (which is very unique when compared to a lot of other areas on the South Coast). There are a few varying hotels and restaurants nearby and the village vibe is very chilled.
The highlight of dining at The Doctor’s House is having the freedom to hang out under the palm trees and take in the glorious sights offered by the Laccadive Sea. We have set up a very casual yet ambient dining area and it is spectacular in the afternoon and evening where the warm lights and relaxing tunes let you forget about the worries of the world.
Come by from 7:30am – 10am and enjoy our tasty breakfast! We have a tasty range of breakfast burritos and some lighter healthier options, including smoothie bowls and other refreshing snacks. We also serve a delicious range of healthy juices, fresh fruit smoothies, Italian roasted espresso coffee and oven baked treats and vegan goodies for all the sweet tooth’s out there!
LUNCH & DINNER
The highlight of the menu is definitely the wood-fired pizza! The oven is firing daily from lunch through till dinner (12:30pm – 9pm). We offer some tasty alternatives to pizza, including salads, bowls and pasta. We also offer a delicious variety of vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options.
The bar is open from 12pm – 11pm and we serve nice wine, tempting cocktails and the coldest beers on the south coast, so come by for a sunset drink and stay for a bite. We also have a daily happy hour!
We currently have 4 dorm rooms available (a 6 bed dorm and three 4 bed dorms). All dorms have unique shared outdoor bathroom facilities and they are complete with bunk beds, fans, mosquito nets and storage spaces. The buildings have been finished in a rustic style and there is a focus on the surrounding vegetation.
